From Airtight Interactive - SimpleViewer is a software to create cool, clean, flash-based image galleries. It is not completely open-source in that the a precompiled version of the SimpleViewer swf file must be purchased for $45 (including free updates, removal of the download link etc). However the package, containing a compiled swf file, can be downloaded for free and used for personal/commercial purposes. There's also a great FAQ with loads of short, easy to follow guidelines for minor modifications to the layout of your gallery. Please note the software can only display JPEG and SWF files - video and GIFs are not supported.

Porta is a small Windows/Linux desktop application which allows users to make quickly make a skinned - HTML or SimpleViewer (Flash) - image gallery simply by selecting a folder containing the required JPEGs and TIFFs.

Picassa is free (Windows only) desktop software from Google which allows you to quickly index and edit the image files stored on your pc. Lots of cool, innovative features as we've come to expect from Google, including automatic resizing and file size reduction of images which are to be emailed and the ability to order prints of your photos from printing sites. You can use it just to organise your images; create image galleries and slideshows on CD; or you can create web galleries using various templates - instructions on how to download and use the SimpleViewer template are here.

JAlbum is an easy-to-use, powerful, Java-based web photo album generator. It's a reliable name, is template-based and has lots of features. Your albums will work in any web browser, using no server-side scripting and hence can be exported to work straight off a CD-ROM. Well worth a meddle.
